The story behind Creating Overflow — and the lessons that shaped the framework.

Creating Overflow is the story of how and why I began learning to invest, what I discovered along the way, and how those experiences eventually led me to develop a framework for carefully building capital and income.

It isn't a step-by-step guide telling you what to invest in or exactly how to invest. It's about the journey, the lessons, and the thinking that changed the way I looked at money — from simply saving and budgeting to asking how the money I had could begin working for me.

Why I wrote Creating Overflow

For years, I knew how to budget.

Raising eleven children on one income taught me a great deal about stretching money, planning ahead and making careful financial decisions.

But as I began thinking more seriously about the future, something I had always known came into much sharper focus:

Saving money and growing money are not the same thing.

It wasn't a new idea, but it was becoming an increasingly important one. I began to think less about simply preserving the money I had and more about how that money could be put to work — carefully — to build capital and create income.

That shift in focus started me on a much deeper journey into investing.

I explored shares, cryptocurrency, trading and different ways of creating income from invested capital. Some things worked. Some didn't. I made mistakes. I lost money. I encountered a scam. And along the way, I began to understand that finding an investment was only part of the question.

I needed to think about risk, protecting capital, liquidity, creating income, recovering my original investment and deciding what to do with profits.

Over time, those lessons began to fit together.

They eventually became the framework I call Creating Overflow.

This book tells that story.

What you'll find inside

In Creating Overflow, I share:

Why being good at budgeting wasn't enough to get me where I wanted to go financially.

What led me to begin learning about investing.

My experiences with shares, cryptocurrency, trading and income-producing investments.

Some of the mistakes, losses and hard lessons that changed the way I think about risk.

Why capital, income and liquidity became so important to my thinking.

How I began thinking differently about recovering my original capital and using profits.

How those lessons eventually came together as the Creating Overflow Waterfall.

The principles and values that now shape the way I approach investing.

This isn't a book about getting rich quickly or following someone else's investment picks.

It's about learning to think differently about what your money could do — and understanding the journey that led me to Creating Overflow.

Is this book for you?

Creating Overflow may be a good place to start if you:

have spent years concentrating on budgeting and saving but have begun wondering what comes next;

are curious about investing but want to understand the thinking behind it before getting into the practical details;

want to hear from someone who learned through real experience rather than pretending to have got everything right;

value careful decision-making, stewardship and taking risk seriously;

are interested in the Creating Overflow webinar or workshop and would like to understand my story and approach first.

You don't need any previous investment knowledge to read the book.

And you don't need to read the book before attending the webinar or workshop.

Think of the book as an introduction to where Creating Overflow came from, what shaped it, and the principles behind it.

What this book isn't

Creating Overflow isn't a step-by-step investment manual.

It doesn't tell you which shares, cryptocurrencies or other investments to buy, and it doesn't provide personal financial advice.

Instead, it shares my experience and introduces the thinking and principles that eventually became the Creating Overflow framework.

If you want to go further and understand the strategy in more detail, that's what the Creating Overflow webinar is for.

If you then want to explore the practical side of putting those principles into practice, that's the role of the Creating Overflow workshop.
